The Centre for Sustainable Transportation is a membership-based, non-profit organization that facilitates best practices for the movement of people and goods over the long-term.
We bridge academic, business, and public interest to identify and help craft winning transportation solutions that benefit society and the environment while enhancing mobility.
Cars, Copenhagen and Climate Change
What do CO2 emissions, vehicles and Denmark have in common? The city famous for bicycles and meandering roadways will soon host leaders for a climate change debate.
CST Research Director, Terry Zdan, sets the scene for this meeting and it's relationship to transportation in the latest CST blog entry. Take a look and see what role vehicle emissions play in the climate change debate.
What is sustainable transportation?
A sustainable transportation system is one that:
- Allows the basic access needs of individuals and societies to be met safely and in a manner consistent with human and ecosystem health, and with equity within and between generations.
- Is affordable, operates efficiently, offers choice of transport mode and supports a vibrant economy.
- Limits emissions and waste within the planet's ability to absorb them, minimizes consumption of non-renewable resources, limits consumption of renewable resources to the sustainable yield level, reuses and recycles its components, and minimizes the use of land and the production of noise.

The CST is working with key organizations from regions across English Canada to establish funding for and organize a National Commuter Cycling Association (NCCA).
